The Florida Marlins played its very first game in its organizational history in June 1992 at Ainsworth Field, Erie Pa. The Marlins Short Season A affiliate was the Erie Sailors. The defending champions Jamestown Expos won the initial game 6-5 in 13 innings. The entire Marlins brass was in attnedance and was broadcast on Sunshine Network. The starting pitcher for the Marlins was John Lynch, who would go on to become an NFL All-Star.
